How many air rifle pellets would you need to produce to make it cost effective to buy the press?

I've seen people use an alloy and a press to manufacture their own .22 air rifle pellets. What are the costs involved in this and is it worth it for anything other than a hobby and self sufficiency?

We only have one airgun (a cheapo .22) and it is theoretically for dispatching pests. However, small firearms pretty much have taken that roll on the homestead.

The only benefit I could think of doing so would be for self-sufficiency, because the cost of a tin of pellets, at least here, is next to nothing.

How about .177 gauge pellets? Does anyone make their own? Would the quality (both gauges) be better? cost may not be the only factor.
